As a follow up to last month’s story, there will be another wave of funding for the Small Business Lending Fund (SBLF). The U.S. Department of the Treasury has released the 50 community banks that will receive $767 million in funds for small business lending. These loans are part of the SBLF to promote new hiring and growth among small businesses throughout the country.
The CPSC in cooperation with LG Electronics has issued a recall on certain Goldstar and Comfort-Aire Dehumidifiers due to fire hazard. This is the second round of recalls on these particular products. The recall is being sent out again due to low consumer response. The CPSC and LG have recognized a serious chance of fire hazard, because of short circuits at the power connector. This recall affects approximately 98,000 units sold in the United States. According to the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index, home prices have increased 3.6% for the second quarter of this year. The index also shows that while some U.S. cities are still having difficulty, many are staying above their 2009 lows and rebuilding a strong market. This is the third wave in fund distributions and there will be more in the following months. To date, 130 local banks have received a total of $1.8 billion in SBLF funds.
