There has been a recent 30% jump in hotel construction in the U.S. through July, which outpaced most other commercial and industrial sectors. There were over 2,700 projects either in construction, final planning or the planning stages in September. Hotels are an all too important aspect of the construction industry and point to growing local economies.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that housing starts increased 12.1% in December from the month before. This would bring housing starts to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 954,000, the highest rate in four years. It is also a 37% rise from December of 2011.
The continuing rise of building permit issuance is good news for the U.S. housing sector. A Census Bureau report for July revealed the highest numbers in four years. July saw a 6.8% rise in permits, an annual rate of 812,000 for the month. From July of 2011 permits issued were up 29.5%.
